Anything that needs to outlive a single request or be visible to other instances. That includes user sessions and authentication tokens, partial workflow state, application caches that other nodes rely on, uploaded files, and any long-running job progress. Ephemeral data used only within one request, such as temporary computation results, can stay in process memory.
