Passive measurement supplements synthetic probing by analyzing existing TCP and DNS traffic to predict network latencies without adding overhead. While synthetics provide a clean baseline from specific locations, passive measurement captures the actual experience of every user. This is critical for continuous, on-the-fly monitoring across thousands of edge nodes simultaneously.
