Optimizing the delivery of streaming and over-the-top (OTT) media content is a major challenge that involves monitoring many data sources at terabyte scale in real time. To address this challenge, Hydrolix and G&L Systemhaus are partnering under the Powered By Hydrolix program to improve the delivery of both live and on-demand media content in the European regions that G&L serves.

“By adding Hydrolix to our product offerings, G&L transforms vast data landscapes into cost-effective, actionable insights to power our clients’ success with advanced, media-specific analytics,” said Alexander Leschinsky, co-founder and managing director of G&L Systemhaus. “We look forward to helping our customers innovate and make data-driven decisions faster, smarter, and more impactful.”

G&L offers solutions for processing and delivering live and on-demand content for large broadcasters and OTT media providers. With OTT, providers must offer a high quality streaming experience to consumers while also personalizing the user experience and generating insights about user behavior. This means collecting, storing, and analyzing a tremendous amount of streaming data in real time while keeping costs down, which is exactly what Hydrolix is designed to do.

“We built our Hydrolix platform to solve the economic and big data problems plaguing many companies today and we’re excited to partner with G&L to further accelerate adoption in the media space,” said Marty Kagan, co-founder and CEO of Hydrolix. “Collecting and retaining massive amounts of data for years can be prohibitively expensive, forcing companies to make painful choices, such as discarding or sampling data. With Hydrolix, they can collect, retain and analyze all of their data affordably so they can proactively identify and resolve performance and security concerns, as well as use historical data to address the root cause.”

G&L will use Hydrolix’s streaming data lake capabilities to:

  • Develop advanced database capabilities: Hydrolix provides sub second query latency even on datasets of 100+ billion rows, and G&L will offer enhanced database functionalities for a highly efficient, SQL-based query interface.
  • Support advanced media log and metric analysis capabilities: G&L will support various types of CDN logs for HLS, DASH, CMAF, and MPEG-TS over TCP or Icecast, as well as ingesting and aggregating logs and metrics from encoders, storage systems, playback, and client analytics tools.
  • Support operations: G&L will use billions of log lines for ops, integrating thresholds and alerts while coordinating with partners like Touchstream for actionable insights.
  • Visualize data: For data representation, G&L will integrate with Grafana for flexible visualization capabilities.
  • Reduce logging costs: Hydrolix is optimized for ingesting and storing event-based data like logs at terabyte scale, all while keeping costs down. With Hydrolix’s cost-effective object storage and 20-50x compression on data, G&L can retain log data for much longer while still reducing costs.
